The former Brazilian leader has been arrested after authorities found he posed a definite escape threat while under home confinement.

The ex-president was found guilty of plotting a government overthrow in the ninth month and sentenced more than a 27-year term in prison, but he was staying under home detention pending court reviews.

Top Judicial Official the presiding justice said the move to detain the 70-year-old politician was a preventative measure after "new facts" emerged.

This included seeking to disable his tracking device and a summons to a demonstration that could "allow for a potential flight.

Judicial Records Show Flight Fears

In a filing authorising the detention, Justice Moraes said information from the facility tracking the former president's confinement suggested the former leader's aim to disable the surveillance device to ensure success in his escape.

His son, Flávio Bolsonaro, who serves as a legislator, called for a gathering of his supporters near his father's house to take place on the weekend.

His son wrote on digital networks on the previous day: Do you plan to struggle for your homeland, or observe everything from your phone there on your settee? I invite you to struggle with us."
