A 60-day voyage through Australia was terminated days after the death of an elderly female passenger who was left behind by the vessel on a distant tropical isle.

The passenger had been walking on the remote island with fellow passengers from the cruise ship, but separated from the group for a break. The vessel sailed away leaving her and came back later that day after the crew discovered the passenger was unaccounted for.

A large-scale hunt discovered her remains the following day.

Officials are examining the tragedy, in coordination with law enforcement and the state coroner.

Head of the voyage organizer stated that guests and personnel on the Coral Adventurer were told that the rest of the voyage had been terminated due to the "unfortunate death and earlier engine troubles".
